Potential for Clapham to be added to Northern Line
The famous Northern Line of the London Underground tube network could be set to be extended into the southern half of the city, with Clapham Junction being considered as the potential stop.
Wandsworth Council is looking closely at proposals to add Clapham to the list of stops on this line, with the idea being linked to broader plans for improving the centre of Clapham. If the proposals are given the go-ahead, they would see Clapham Junction become connected to the Northern line as the next stop on from Battersea Power Station.
Prior to this idea being mooted, there were hopes to enhance the public transport options for people in the borough through the construction of Crossrail 2. However, that project is now on indefinite hold.
This would not be the first time that new stops had been added to the Northern Line. It was extended again recently, with Battersea being one of the two brand new stops added. However, this would take the line into South London, which many argue currently suffers from the lack of an underground network.
Printing services in Clapham would be able to help with the provision of tickets and timetables, if it is decided to build this new station.
It is expected that extending the line to Clapham Junction could cost a minimum of £750 million and involve heavy development work.
