One of the most famous operas ever composed is set to be staged at a venue in Clapham next month, as part of a tour of the country.
Cosi fan tutte is the work of celebrated composer Mozart. It dates back to 1790 and tells the tale of two military officers who decide to test the faithfulness of their fiancées by disguising themselves and each attempting to woo the other’s sweetheart. What follows is a mix of comedy and drama that has made the show among the most beloved operas ever created.
The troupe that is bringing this version of it to audiences is the Merry Opera Company. The Clapham Grand will serve as the venue for the performance in the borough – and it will be a ground-breaking night for that venerable venue.
It was constructed in 1900 and has been everything from a bingo hall to a cinema in the years since. It is now a variety theatre, but has never hosted an opera before.
When it comes to promoting live shows in the area, Posters can be a good method. Clapham has poster printing outlets that can help with it.
This version of Cosi fan tutte uses the translation by Amanda Holden, while John Ramster is directing. Among the performers are Marcus Dawson, Elle Oldfield, James Beddoe and Tilly Green.
It will be performed in Clapham on 18th February.
