Hundreds of council homes could be built near Clapham

Hundreds of brand new council houses could be set for construction at a site just outside Clapham, after crucial changes were made to the Plans.

This proposal is a joint one between Battersea Power Station Development Company and Wandsworth Council and would involve the construction of 203 houses. The chosen site is Battersea Power Station, just over a mile away from Clapham. These houses would be part of a wider regeneration scheme for the area that will cost a total of £9 billion to complete. The scheme looks set to move forward, following alterations to the Plans.

They have been changed to include a greater proportion of affordable homes. Initially, the scheme would have seen just 386 of those built – which amounted to 9% of the 4,000 that will be created through the regeneration. This led to objections from council members.

Now, with these additional council homes, around 15% of the total number will be affordable housing. That percentage has been accepted by the members of the council.

Local property developers sometimes make use of Clapham shops that offer brochure printing. This is so they can showcase their new homes with Brochures featuring colour photographs.

The next stage in the process will be to submit an application for planning approval. It is likely that a final decision on the homes will be made sometime next year.
