Plans for railway station in Clapham under consideration
The railway station at Clapham Junction looks set to be enhanced and modernised, with three different plans for it being weighed up by Wandsworth Council.
This local authority put together a masterplan two years ago to bring the station up to date and it has now created a shortlist of three options. The project is being carried out in collaboration with local landowners, Network Rail, Transport for London and the Greater London Authority (GLA). At the heart of it is the need for more entrances at Clapham Junction Station as well as a new passenger crossing.
An earlier proposal that was put forward by Network Rail would have seen a bridge constructed at the east side of the station. It was rejected because of the lack of additional entrances.
Now there are three options on the table. The first would see further entrances added at both sides, plus a brand new over-bridge on the east side. Option two would see that bridge built on the west side but retains the two new entrances. Option three involves building an underpass on the east side and two new entrances.
Local travel hubs sometimes make use of Clapham stationery printers. These provide the admin materials they need.
The next stage in the process will see designs produced for each of the options. It is expected to go on until autumn 2026.
