Clapham housing plan gets go ahead
Plans for thousands of new homes in Clapham that will form part of the last phase of an ambitious regeneration scheme have been given the go ahead by the local council.
This scheme is being called York Gardens, and it is the result of a linkup between Wandsworth Council and Taylor Wimpey. It is set to involve the construction of 2,550 homes at the chosen site, in addition to a host of other amenities to improve the area. These will include a park measuring 2.5 hectares, office blocks, a library and centres for leisure, the community and children.
Now that planning permission has been secured, the building of the homes will be able to get underway soon, and work on the chosen site for development is expected to create jobs for 3,360 people in the building sector.
Developments like this sometimes also have knock-on benefits for local shops, such as those that supply business card printing and other useful services.
Ravi Govindia from Wandsworth Council said that all people currently living in council properties in the area had been promised better accommodation within this scheme once it has been built. He added that the council were sure this opportunity would enhance their quality of life.
Building work on the houses is expected to get underway at some point this year.
