Reopening planned for oldest pub in Chesterfield

The oldest pub in Chesterfield is set to open its doors to the public again later in the year, after new owners took over the running of the venue.

Ye Royal Oak has been a part of the town since 1722, according to official records. However, some claim that its history goes back even further than that – suggesting that the Knights Templar used it as an inn. The pub has been shuttered since 2021 though, and has been on the market for the past three years. Now, new owners have finally been found for it.

The pub has been bought by Patrick and Meg, two teachers who live in Chesterfield. This represents the fulfilment of a dream for both of them, and will see them give up their teaching careers to run the pub full-time.

Both have previous experience of pub work as well as of management. When they are ready to reopen, Promotional Products from Chesterfield shops will be one advertising option. These can be created cheaply and given away.

Speaking to a local source, Meg stated that:
“Having lived in Chesterfield for almost three years now, we frequently passed the Royal Oak and spoke about how we’d love to be in the position to buy the pub to transform it back to being a beautiful boozer.”

An opening date is still to be announced.
