Jazz band to swing into Chesterfield

Chesterfield is getting ready to banish the winter blues, with the news that a jazz band will be swinging into town for a one-off show.

That band goes by the name Rat and the Jazz Cats and is known for delivering an authentic jazz sound. The band is a five-piece that is based in Sheffield and each of its members possesses real musical skill combined with a love for jazz. Its performance in the town is set to mark the ideal way for local music fans to start a new year and forget about the cold and dark outside.

The band is led by one Rat Gregory, who plays both trumpet and flugelhorn. He is joined by tenor saxophone player Kent Roach, guitarist Col Hicks, bass player Rob Oxley and drummer Ben Griffiths. The latter has a link to the jazz scene in Chesterfield, which will make this a homecoming show for him.

Poster printing by Chesterfield shops is one of the ways in which live concerts like this in the town can be advertised. Posters are an effective way of getting public attention.

Those who attend this concert can expect to hear a repertoire that ranges from jazz arrangements of standards to breakneck bebop. Rat and the Jazz Cats perform both high energy swing tunes and slower numbers.

The show will take place on 31 January at St Leonards Chapel.
