New houses could be built on Chesterfield church site

A number of brand new houses could be set for construction in Chesterfield, on a site that is currently occupied by a church, should the local council decide to approve the Plans.

Wilcockson Construction Ltd has applied for permission to build nine new homes at the site, each of which would have three bedrooms. St Patrick’s Church presently stands on the chosen spot, but the developer is asking for permission to knock it down as it has not been in use for several years now and the surrounding area is derelict.

In addition to the homes, Wilcockson also wishes to create spaces for residents to park their cars there. According to the Derbyshire Times, the company included a statement along with its application, saying:

“The redevelopment of this site for housing represents sustainable development. Overall, the site will contribute towards the Government’s objective to boost significantly the delivery of housing.”

Housing developers often look to local outlets to provide them with glossy brochure printing so that they are able to let prospective buyers or tenants see their latest properties.

A report published by the council argues in favour of this particular application on the grounds that new homes would fit in with the area and the fact that the church – which dates back to the mid-1980s – is no longer in use.
