More than 100 fundraisers set out in July to generate cash for the struggling Ashgate Hospice in Chesterfield, after the number of people in need of the facility’s services rose dramatically.
According to the Buxton Advertiser, those involved managed to make the event a huge success.
Esther Preston, Director of Fundraising and Marketing, explained that more and more people are affected by life-limiting or terminal illnesses, and the hospice was in desperate need of funds in order to provide the best quality of care for all those that need it.
Sunday saw riders cycle 10, 25, and 55 miles to give back to the charity, which provides free services to affected families. They raised money as part of the J.E. James and Derbyshire Times’ Flagg Cycle Challenge, in which many of the people of North Derbyshire took part. The event started at the hospice at 9am sharp and cyclists completed specific routes across the countryside.
Graeme Huston, editor for the Derbyshire Times, expressed how well the event went. He described it as ‘wonderful’, and praised the volunteers for making the event a success for the hospice, which usually costs £6.5 million a year to keep running.
As well as fundraisers, poster printing in Chesterfield is often a great way to spread the word about a charity and receive more support from elsewhere.
