East Midlands police use posters to deter burglars

Police in Derbyshire have been have begun using Posters in attempt to reduce criminal activity in the region.

The constabulary has been working specifically with residents to bring down the number of break-ins that are happening in the county. Homeowners and company bosses are being asked to put up Posters on their properties which warn of alarm systems being in place.

The campaign focuses on sheds, buildings and outhouses. The main premise of the poster activity is to put would-be burglars off breaking into these types of buildings by being explicit about the lack of valuables which have been left inside.

This type of campaign has proved successful in the past and crime rates across the country have dropped in certain areas as a result. Speaking about the initiative, Sergeant Andy Wordsworth said:

"Burglars will often only go for outbuildings that they think will be an easy target so advertising as clearly as possible that they are alarmed can be a real help.

“We want to stop crime before it happens, which is why we’re encouraging as many people as possible to come and pick one up. It’s a simple security step that, along with shed alarms and other kit, can be the difference between becoming a burglary victim and deterring a criminal altogether."

The Posters have been created using full colour printing and Chesterfield and Derbyshire residents wishing to obtain a copy can do so by contacting the police by calling 101.
