Chesterfield shopping centre set to be revamped

Plans for a revamp of a retail centre in Chesterfield are moving forward, after the owners submitted them to the local council for approval.

Property firm Alteris bought Vicar Lane Shopping Centre earlier in the year, after it went into administration, and now the company has revealed Plans for the future of the retail hub. These include fitting new floor space in Unit 25 that would allow for flexible use, building a new St James’ Square amphitheatre that will have more seats and be available for public use, and adding an LED screen for live events and entertainment.

Alteris’ director Bert Broadhead stated that it was important to provide people with a shopping experience that met their individual needs so that the town centre could compete with online shopping options, adding that Chesterfield was already better than many other towns for this.

Shops often make use of brochure printing services as another way of reaching potential customers.

The chairman of Destination Chesterfield, Peter Swallow, told the Derbyshire Times:

“Chesterfield is a town of opportunity and we have the partners and collaboration in place to drive forward our ambitions to not only deliver our current development Plans but also attract further investment.”

Broadhead concluded by saying that the town centre needed to be unique and feature both independent and large chain stores to succeed.
