Chesterfield residents have chance to name Rugby Road

Residents of Chesterfield are being given the opportunity to come up with the name for a housing development that will be situated at a former Rugby ground.

Sheffield Road, the former ground of Chesterfield Panther RUFC, is due to be the site of a new housing development for the region. The rugby club is moving to a new ground on Dunston Lane and the club officials are keen that the housing development’s name acknowledges the fact that Rugby was played at the former ground in Sheffield Road from 1927. The council is now running a competition in conjunction with the rugby club to give local people the chance to name the new housing development.

The winner of the competition will receive two tickets to Twickenham to see an international game of rugby and the runner up will receive a voucher worth £100.

Chairman at Chesterfield RUFC, Graham Bell, spoke about the competition, saying:

“I think it's very fitting that the new housing development should recognise the historical significance of the rugby club, so we're pleased to support this competition and hope many fans get involved and come up with some great ideas."

Chris Johnson from the Panthers and Councillor John Burrows were pictured in the Chesterfield Post holding a ‘Rugby Road Competition’ sign that had been created using digital printing.

Chesterfield residents wishing to enter the competition can find more information about how to get involved on the Chesterfield council website.
