The subject of a £2 million refurbishment investment by Chesterfield Borough Council, banner printing for everyone involved could well be on the agenda.
The market hall topped the list for the UK's top small market by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA). Opened in October 2013, it has also received the backing from the stallholders based there, with market traders reporting strong business.
The president of the Chesterfield National Market Traders’ Federation, Paul Hind, gave it his support too, saying:
“The traders have found the new market hall good. It is lighter and the public use it more often."
The NABMA recognition was welcomed by the council, with the executive member for leisure, culture and tourism, Amanda Serjeant, saying:
“This is great news for the town as the market hall is one of the iconic buildings in Chesterfield and a key part of our history."
The total cost of the project was $4 million, with the National Lottery and European Regional Development Fund providing half of the total.
The cash was used to develop the interior and exterior of the market hall and Assembly Rooms, as well as provide office suites on the upper floors.
