Chesterfield Marathon proves a sunny success

The second annual Chesterfield Marathon proved a big hit recently, as thousands of people turned out to compete and watch the runners from the sidelines.

The three races that make up the event – the fun run, half marathon and full marathon – attracted over a thousand entrants, with the fine weather no doubt helping.

Those running and watching were bathed in late summer sunshine throughout, ensuring the races and the other activities taking place on the day - which included a display of fireworks - went with a real swing.

It was organised by Mike Hyman, who works for the local Kids ‘n’ Cancer charity, and afterwards he told the Derbyshire Times that:

“It was just an amazing day and the weather was fantastic.

“We had people from all over the world – the US, Germany, Spain, France as well as every part of the UK.”

Those organising local events like this one can always rely on places that supply poster printing in Chesterfield, to ensure that they are properly promoted.

David Taylor, a resident of Chesterfield, was the winner of the men’s marathon, while Caroline Hemming took the honours in the women’s event. However the real purpose was for everyone to have fun and raise money for charities.

Alongside Kids ‘n’ Cancer, the British Heart Foundation, Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and Macmillan will also benefit from the money raised.
