Chesterfield flea market to return to the 1940s

People living in Chesterfield will have the opportunity to experience some of the sights and sounds of the 1940s at the end of the month, as part of a day celebrating the town’s flea market.

The flea market is one of the oldest and largest in the country and it will be celebrated with a day of vintage entertainment. Those who go along will find themselves met by characters from 1940s cinema and will have their shopping sound tracked by live performances from a tribute act of wartime musical sensations, The Andrews Sisters. There will be performances at various points throughout the day.

The main venue for these 1940s activities will be Vicar Lane Shopping Centre in Chesterfield, and the flea market will be open, with most of the stallholders being dressed in clothes from the era. Poster printing services in Chesterfield are sometimes used to help in promoting special events like this.

Speaking to the Derbyshire Times, the manager of the centre, Shaun Brown, stated:

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming our customers and those visiting Chesterfield’s 1940s flea market for a day of free, period entertainment.”

He went on to add that it would help conjure up the era for those who had lived through it as well as for younger people. It will be taking place on 31st October.
