Pupils from Selworthy primary school, in the Taunton area, have pooled their creative talents and come up with the material to write and illustrate a book about the story of George and the Dragon. The pupils, who are aged between 9 and 12 years old, will produce the book using full colour printing.
Bath, Somerset and the surrounding areas are known for being areas of literary interest, with events like the Bath literature festival being held each year. The fact that local primary school children are getting involved with creating their own Books looks set to keep that literary spirit alive.
The teacher of the class at Selworthy school that worked on the book is Jan Vickery. She spoke about the book, saying:
"The story writing process has bonded the group in ways that could not have been imagined."
The pupils now plan to sell their 20-page book and they also recently hosted a special book signing event. The proceeds from the sales will help to cover printing costs. The pupils also hope that, if there is any profit made from sales of their book, they will be able to purchase something to benefit their classroom and classmates.
