A plan has been put forward to extend the popular Christmas Market in Bath so that it lasts for an additional week.
This plan has been devised by Bath & North East Somerset Council, which puts the market together each year. The council has submitted a planning application that is designed to guarantee the long-term future of the market. However, this application also contains proposals to extend the length of time that it runs for each year and widen its locale. Both are likely to be popular with local people.
Bath Christmas Market first took place 25 years ago and was originally run by artisans and businesses in the city. The council assumed responsibility for it in 2021 and it is widely regarded as being among Europe’s finest festive markets.
When the local council is looking to advertise Christmas events, it can always use promotional products created by Bath shops. These can be designed with a special festive theme.
The plan for the Christmas Market that it is putting forward is to extend it to 25 days. The council is also keen to incorporate Kingsmead Square, Queen Square and Parade Gardens within the market area.
Bath Christmas Market draws over 430,000 visitors every year and currently lasts for 18 days. Local businesses profit to the tune of £64 billion every year.
The changes would come into effect from 2027.
