Revamp planned for shopping centre in Basingstoke

Plans for a major redevelopment of a Basingstoke shopping centre have been submitted to the local council, bringing the project one step closer to fruition.

The project would see Chineham District Centre and the surrounding locale undergo a revamp that would involve the building of a gym, business and health centre, hotel, cinema, cafes, restaurants and new shops. Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has now received the application for planning permission and if it gives the go-ahead, work would be able to get underway shortly after.

As well as these new amenities, there would also be a significant amount of landscaping work as part of the project, while new spaces for the public, toilet facilities and an increase in the car parking spaces are also planned.

There has already been a two-step public consultation process, with the health centre among the suggestions that have been added to the Plans as a result. Brochure printing is often used to showcase projects of this kind.

Speaking to the Basingstoke Gazette, James Burchell from Tellon Capital, the owners of the centre, said:

“After many months of engagement with the community, council and tenants, it is a real milestone to have submitted this planning application. We welcome continued engagement with all interested parties throughout the determination process.”

The hope is that the council will reach a decision by next March.
