Potential spots for hospital in Basingstoke announced
Two potential places where the brand new hospital planned for Basingstoke could be based have been shortlisted by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT).
Financing for the construction of a new hospital in the town was confirmed by the government last month, but HHFT stated it had been looking into possible locations for a new facility since October of last year, once it knew that money was coming. It has examined a number of potential sites since then but has now cut the list down to a final two.
One of these is in Aldermaston Road and is the site of the existing hospital for Basingstoke and wider area, while the other is at a spot between the town and Winchester. Hospitals frequently make use of stationery printers in the local area to supply the printed administrative forms used every day.
Speaking to the Basingstoke Gazette, the trust chief executive Alex Whitfield said that the process of cutting the choices down to two had been a long one, before adding:
“We are looking forward to discussing the pros and cons of each of the possible locations as part of the formal consultation process.”
This consultation with the general public is due to take place next year, with the final decision about which site the hospital is built on being made after that.
