Paris trip for Basingstoke gymnasts

A group of young gymnasts who hail from Basingstoke are set to have the chance to showcase their talents at one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world.

The Basingstoke Display Squad will be heading to Disneyland Paris as one of a number of gymnastic teams chosen for a special parade with an Aladdin theme. The squad, which uses Basingstoke Gymnastics Club as its training base, will also compete in a competition called Gymnastique Magique while at the world famous attraction.

This will be the very first time the troupe has taken part in events outside the UK, but they have enjoyed considerable success in this country, including winning a bronze award at an event in Nottingham earlier this year. Local clubs like this often promote their events using flyer printing.

The squad consists of 16 girls, all of whom are aged between eight and sixteen, and they perform routines that combine techniques such as dancing and tumbling with music. Speaking to the Gazette, the mother of one member stated that:

“The opportunity is amazing for them, and it will be great to show people just exactly what display is. Display is different to other types of gymnastics which people don’t always see.”

The competition takes place next Saturday, October 13, with the parade being the following day.
