Mayor honours inspirational Basingstoke residents

Basingstoke’s outgoing mayor, Cllr Roger Gardiner, attended an awards ceremony in the town recently where he honoured those who contribute to their local communities.

The mayor handed out gongs to those companies and individuals that have worked to improve life in the borough of Basingstoke and Deane throughout the mayoral year.

Basingstoke College of Technology’s principal, Anthony Bravo, was presented with a glass business award shaped like Basingstoke town centre, to recognise the efforts he has undertaken to strengthen corporate links with China.

Afterwards, he told a reporter from the Basingstoke Gazette that:
“At BCoT we are committed to supporting the borough’s young people by offering the best possible education in preparation for their future careers.

“I would also like to dedicate this award to the fantastic team of staff here at BCoT. Without them, none of this would be possible.”

Alongside this award, three residents of the borough also received individual prizes honouring their community work at the ceremony. David Stewart, 48, was recognised for his research into the local war memorials, while Derek Newland received an award for his voluntary contributions to Basingstoke Young Carers.

The last of these awards was presented to Julie Gary, for her role as an Asda community life champion.

Awards ceremonies of this kind often rely on poster printing in Basingstoke and similar places, to provide them with materials for publicising the events in the area.
