This three-act opera by Puccini tells the tale of the tragic romance that develops between the US naval officer Pinkerton and a youthful Japanese girl called Cio Cio San. That role will be performed and sung by Dee, against a backdrop of beautiful set designs – including a traditional Japanese garden with flowers and trees made from silk that has been specially created for the show.
The venue for this new performance of Madama Butterfly is set to be The Anvil in Basingstoke. Local theatres often get shops in the town that supply glossy colour brochure printing to provide them with Brochures and programmes for their shows.
All of the costumes for this show are the creations of Felix Bessonov, the famous clothes designer, and two ancient Japanese kimonos are among them.
Speaking to the Basingstoke Observer, producer Ellen Kent said that she was hoping that audiences for the show would be struck immediately by the quality of the design, before going on to add that:
“My operas have to be emotional and beautiful. The lighting design is fantastic and reflects the various times of day and night as the story unfolds.”
Madama Butterfly will be at The Anvil on April 12th.
