Jobs and housing pledge made in Basingstoke

The people behind an ambitious green-friendly housing development being proposed for Basingstoke are indicating that it will lead to the creation of thousands of jobs and houses.

These proposals would see land on the estate owned by Lord Lymington used for the development, which will involve the building of 2,500 homes. The project is being called Upper Swallick garden village and Lymington has stated that it would do a great deal to solve the town’s current shortage of affordable housing – as well as creating jobs for around 2,500 people in the area.

Currently, Lord Lymington is the Portsmouth Estates custodian as well as chair of its board of trustees, and the land he wants to use to build the development has been owned by his family for six centuries. Speaking to the Basingstoke Gazette, he stated:

“It is imperative that we create a true legacy development – something that my great, great-grandchildren and their fellow Basingstoke and Deane residents will look to and be proud of.”

Brochure printing created by shops in the Basingstoke area can be a way for housing developers to show off their Plans for new estates when they are seeking planning permission.

Lymington added that the project would be environmentally friendly, retaining and adding to the hedgerows and trees on the land, in addition to improving its levels of biodiversity.
