Grants for Basingstoke community groups

Four community organisations in Basingstoke have been awarded Lloyds Bank Community Fund grants amounting to £6,500 in total.

Basingstoke Consortium Ltd, the Basingstoke branch of the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS), Odiham Cottage Hospital and St Michael’s Hospice received individual sums from £500 to £3,000 each from the fund.

These groups all underwent a public voting process to determine which organisations would receive money, with St Michael’s Hospice on Aldermaston Road enjoying the most support and being awarded the largest £3,000 grant.

The £2,000 grant went to Basingstoke Consortium Ltd, while £1,000 was awarded to Odiham Cottage Hospital and the £500 was received by NASS.

Community groups of this kind often make use of Stationery printers in Basingstoke and similar places, to provide them with the official Stationery they need.

Speaking to the Basingstoke Gazette, the hospice’s income generation director, Iain Cameron, said the organisation was delighted to receive the money from the community fund, before adding:

“St Michael’s Hospice is a local charity, serving local people; this success shows the charity’s importance to the people of Basingstoke and North Hampshire.”

St Michael’s Plans to use the grant to help pay for an ultrasound machine that will allow staff to locate the build-up of fluid within patients’ lungs and abdominal cavities, and provide treatment. It could also help them manage the symptoms of this, which include difficulty in breathing and pain.
