A new warehouse distribution centre looks set to be constructed at a site in Basingstoke, after the Plans were given the nod by the local council at a recent meeting.
The chosen location for this warehouse is alongside the M3 motorway, outside the town, and it was given the go-ahead by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council following a vote. This saw six members vote in favour of the plans, with a major factor in that decision being that the distribution centre is expected to lead to the creation of jobs for close to 1,400 people.
The council argued that the knock-on benefits that this would have for the economy of Basingstoke and the wider region were too significant to be overlooked.
Local councils often look to printing services in the same area to supply the Forms they need for meetings and day-to-day administration.
The developer behind the project is Newlands Developments and the company told the meeting that it has a top logistics firm lined up to occupy the warehouse. The identity of this company has not been revealed yet, but it is widely rumoured to be Amazon.
While the council approved the plans for this warehouse, it opted to reject the outline proposal for another three at the same location that was also submitted by Newlands. The reason given was their impact on the landscape.
