Interns at Hampshire County Council recently ran a pilot internship scheme called Internship Plus, which saw 15 students working with the council to build up their skills with a view to securing a job in civil service or the public sector. The council has a particular focus on helping those people who may have missed out on training opportunities due to being young carers.
Councillor Ken Thornber, the leader of Hampshire County Council, spoke about the internship, saying:
“As corporate parents we were particularly that we help those people who need that extra support to succeed in the workplace. Young care leavers face particular challenges that their peers do not. I am very pleased to celebrate with these young people, the successful completion of their internship. As one of the county’s largest employers I think it is important we take a lead with initiatives like this which help young people take their first steps into employment."
The 15 interns were successful in completing the internship programme, which is now being rolled out beyond the pilot. Each graduate received a certificate documenting their success; these had been produced using digital printing.
Basingstoke and the wider Hampshire region is home to a number of young people who may benefit from the Internship Plus scheme. More information about how to apply can be found by contacting Hampshire County Council.
