Christmas carol service to be held in Basingstoke

The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane has called upon residents of the town to get into the festive spirit by inviting them to attend this year’s Civic Carol Service.

St Michael’s Church is set to serve as the venue for the event, with Paul Frankum – the town’s mayor councillor – and his wife Jane among those who will be attending. The Mayor’s chaplain, Reverend Arthur Botham, will lead the annual service which will consist of a programme made up entirely of Christmas songs.

A number of community groups based within the town will have representatives at the service to give readings, while Merton Junior School Choir and Basingstoke Festival of Choirs are both scheduled to sing. Cards created by the former will also be displayed.

The Christmas carol service is entirely free to attend and will be taking place on Saturday 9th December. Speaking to a reporter from the Basingstoke Gazette, Mayor Frankum stated:
“I hope that as many people as possible will come along and enjoy what promises to be a wonderful community event. All proceeds will be going to my charity and I am looking forward to an evening of seasonal goodwill.”

Local leaflet printers are often called upon to help when it comes to the promotion of special events such as this one.
