Sarah Cotton hails from Hannington, not far from Basingstoke, and she is bidding to run a total of over 50 miles during the two days – with the wild mountains in the south of Iceland being her chosen terrain.
It will be the first time that Cotton, aged 46, has ever tried running anywhere other than the UK. She first developed her interest in the sport in 2009, and this extreme effort is all about raising money for the Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild – an organisation dedicated to raising cash for household linen and clothes that are then distributed to charities that need them.
Having been involved with this organisation since around 2007, she knows how important it is to keep funds rolling in, as she told the Basingstoke Gazette:
“It’s a charity that some people aren’t actually aware of, but what we do is really important because we aren’t raising money for just one charity – we’re actually raising money for something more like 70.”
The run is set to take place across the Bank Holiday Weekend, and leaflet printing is often used by those carrying out local fundraising, to help them attract attention and possible financial donations.
