A man from Basingstoke is set to get on his bike next month, as part of a bid to raise cash for a cause with real personal significance to him.
Keith Perry is 45 years old and lives in the Buckskin district of Basingstoke. His charity bid will see him travel by bike between John O’Groats and Land’s End, which is effectively the length of the country and adds up to around 1,250 miles. He has committed himself to this so that he can raise funds for Admiral Nurses, who are specially trained in dementia care.
There is a personal reason why Keith has chosen this particular cause for his fundraising effort, as his own step-dad David has suffered from dementia for six years, which has brought about the loss of his memory.
Speaking to the Basingstoke Gazette, Keith said that he has been getting ready for the task by using his work gym to train and that he has planned his route to take in some of the sights along the way. Flyer printing can often help get the word out about fundraising bids. He went on to add:
“This is my first really big journey and it is one of the longest journeys in the country, which I have made harder.”
He is scheduled to take this ride during Easter.
