Fans of blues music throughout Basingstoke will be getting together to pay their respects to the founder of a top live venue this autumn, with a special tribute.
Rex Everett co-founded Basingstoke Blues Club, and his passion for this type of music earned him the nickname ‘Mr Blues’. Sadly, he passed away aged 76 at the beginning of 2024, but now, local blues fans will unite to honour his life and memory at an event dubbed Rexfest.
This will be a day dedicated to live blues music, marking the ideal send off.
The venue for it is set to be Central Studios, which is within Queen Mary’s College, Basingstoke. An impressive roster of musicians has been lined up for the event, including the Tommy Allen Band, Sugarman Sam & the Voodoo Men, the Pete Harris Blues Band, Johnny Marvel and Thomas Heppell.
Poster printing is one of the many options that organisers of one-off local events of this sort can utilise when they need to get the word out.
Basingstoke Blues Club opened in 1991, following the success of a blues festival in the town. The other founder was Rod Garfield, who died during 2023. All shows held in the club were charity fundraisers, and proceeds from Rexfest will go to Asthma + Lung UK.
Rexfest will take place on 21 September.
