Basingstoke to get taste of Bahamas

Fans of classic trains will be travelling full steam ahead to Basingstoke later in the summer, as a historic engine hits town during a wider tour throughout the region.

The train called Bahamas is a number 45596 Jubilee class steam engine, and it is set to pay a visit to Basingstoke as one stop on the Dorset Coast Express. This trip is put together by The Railway Touring Company, a firm that specialises in historic trains and routes, and it will begin its journey at London Victoria Station.

Bahamas was originally built all the way back in 1935 in Glasgow. It was in active service as a train for 30 years, before being retired. However, it has since been restored to full splendour and has been in action as a heritage engine for the past three years.

Brochure printing with colourful pictures designed to appeal to steam engine enthusiasts can be an ideal way of getting people interested in special events like this.

Speaking to the Basingstoke Gazette, Kelly Osborne from The Railway Touring Company said:

“It is always thrilling to see these magnificent British designed and built steam locos in action hauling seaside specials reminiscent of 1950s summer holidays.”

Bahamas will come to Basingstoke on 21st July, 18th August and 1st September, with roughly 400 people set to take each of the three trips.
