Volunteers abseiled down the sides of a Basingstoke hospital recently in a bid to raise money for a local charity.
Standing in the pouring rain, the volunteers were reportedly enthusiastic as they lowered themselves over the edge of the rooftop, ascending to safety with the applause of onlookers.
Organised by Shopmobility Basingstoke, the project sought to raise funds to pay for the scooters used by disabled people living in the area.
Melanie Collins, who works for the Citizens Advice Bureau in Basingstoke and took part in the abseiling, said she volunteered to support a friend, Paula Southby-Ryland, who was recently classed as disabled and uses the services of Shopmobility each week.
Speaking about the event to the Basingstoke Gazette, she said she was simultaneously frightened and exhilarated, but overall found the experience enjoyable.
Mrs Southby-Ryland said she was proud of her friend for taking part. She explained that her trouble started back in January when she injured her leg, but Shopmobility makes getting around Basingstoke much easier.
