Basingstoke girl wins letter-writing competition

A schoolgirl from Basingstoke has been awarded the first prize of postal orders, Stamps and Stationery in an Olympics-themed letter writing competition.

Jessica Tridgell is just ten years old but has already been recognised for her outstanding letter writing skills thanks to the fact that she won the heats of a recent letter writing competition. The competition, run by Royal Mail, encouraged local school children in the South and Southwest to pen a letter explaining what the London 2012 Olympic Games meant to them.

Jessica won a prize of £100 in postal orders, plus a set of Stamps and Stationery. Bespoke Stationery printing in Basingstoke is very much in demand, although this tends to be more from businesses and companies as opposed to people buying printed Stationery for personal use. However, thanks to competitions like this, sending traditional letters with a personal touch is becoming considered fashionable again, so having personal printed Stationery could be the next big thing.

The Olympic Director for Royal Mail commented on Jessica’s win, saying:

“I was very impressed with the originality of Jessica’s letter.

“Excitement is building about the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and this was evident from the entries we received.

“Entries had to follow the basic letter format, but we didn’t expect letters to be perfect and, of course, we took children’s ages into consideration.”

Runners up prizes of smaller-value postal orders, Stamps and Stationery were also given out. Now Jessica has won the regional heat, she has the chance to win the national prize, which includes a visit to London.
