Basingstoke companies set to bid for BID

Businesses throughout Basingstoke are to be given the option of joining up with the Plans for a Business Improvement District (BID) in the town, which would be led by the private sector.

The BID is the shared vision of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, the Town Centre Forum and local companies, with the aim being for employers and businesses to join forces to produce economic improvement and attract greater numbers of consumers to Basingstoke.

Businesses committing to the scheme would also be able to benefit from various corporate and public events, improvements to the environment and other services should they pay a small fee.

Both Basing View and the town centre area would be incorporated within the BID, and The Means – a firm specialising in economic regeneration and development – is conducting a feasibility study to gauge levels of interest among companies in the town.

Should it become a reality, there are modern local services available, like digital Business Cards in Basingstoke, that will keep them on the cutting edge.

Local councillor Terri Reid told the Basingstoke Gazette:

“There are currently 187 BIDs in the UK, with more on the way so it is important to explore whether Basingstoke wants to adopt this model in the future.”

She added that many of those have been extremely successful, and that she was excited at the possibility of achieving similar results in Basingstoke.
