The department is joining forces with a firm called Festool, a company that has been providing the building industry with power tools for over 90 years. The aim of the link-up is to help ensure that students studying on the college’s building courses receive the training they need to be able to enter the workforce.
Festool has provided funding to the tune of £50,000 that will be used to supply students with top quality pneumatic and electric tools for their training. It will also enable them to develop the exact skills needed to enter the modern building sector.
Called ‘Tools for Schools’, the scheme is one that Festool offers to colleges alone and includes equipment like routers, plunge saws and drills. Speaking to FE News, Carl Shaw from the college stated that:
“By investing in this technology, Tameside College is placing itself at the forefront of construction training. Learners who practice on this technology are positioning themselves to enjoy a rewarding career within the construction industry.”
