New library in Ashton-under-Lyne draws thousands

A brand new library that opened this month in Ashton-under-Lyne has proven to be a real hit with local people, with six thousand visitors recorded during the first week.

Ashton Library is situated within the huge town centre building called Tameside One that was built at a cost of £48m, and serves as the new base for the local council. The library was officially opened on March 7th, with councillor Brenda Warrington and Denise Ward, the mayor of the borough, both in attendance. The opening date was chosen as it is also World Book Day.

This new library is just one part of a bigger project for the area that is called Vision Tameside and it contains all of the Books and other materials that were formerly housed in the Tameside Central Library and Art Gallery.

Facilities of this kind are often advertised through the use of branded Promotional Products. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Ian Saxon, from the capital monitoring and strategic planning panel for the borough, said:

“We’ve had over 6,000 visitors into the library last week, that is more than twice what we would normally get into Ashton Library. That is without the visitors into the building.”

He went on to add that this kind of visitor increase within the centre of town would have plenty of benefits for businesses based there.
