Lucky penny lottery win for Ashton-under-Lyne man

A 48-year-old man from Ashton-under-Lyne scooped a jackpot of £1.8 million in the National Lottery recently – and attributed this life-changing success to a lucky penny.

Sean Lloyd, who drives a bus in the Greater Manchester area, happened to find a penny lying on the pavement outside the Oldham shop where he purchased the lottery ticket.

Shops often make use of printing companies in Ashton-under-Lyne and similar areas to advertise the availability of lottery tickets and other services.

Lloyd told the press that finding the coin made him feel lucky at the time – to the extent that he rubbed his ticket with it to bring him a bit of additional good fortune.

The father of four has now given notice at his place of work, following the windfall.

Speaking to the press afterwards, Lloyd said:

“I had just finished my shift on the bus and was going to get my lunch. I noticed a shiny penny on the floor outside the shop and I just felt lucky. I thought ‘This is my lucky day – I am going to buy a lottery ticket’.”

He went on to add that, having first thought he had five correct numbers, he planned to use the winnings to pay for his daughter’s wedding, before realising the bonus ball number was his too.

Now, Lloyd Plans to take a holiday with his family.
