Local students raise cash for British Legion

A group of students who attend a college in Ashton-under-Lyne chose to put their skills to use in raising money for charity.

The students that took part are all studying hospitality and catering at Tameside College and they set up their charity business in market square, Ashton-under-Lyne. They offered those who made a donation to the Royal British Legion a meal made up of butternut soup, followed by roasted chicken – topped off with a dessert of spotted dick.

The organisers were the college’s restaurant manager, John Holden, and Kevin Taylor from the magazine AboutTameside. The idea behind it was partly to raise cash for veterans but also to get the students used to dealing with members of the public.

One of the students, Lauren Mole, said that she felt proud to know that people would benefit from her cooking. Colleges often use brochure printing to show off what they can offer potential students.

Speaking to FE News, Holden stated that:

“It was great to see people enjoy the food and donate to a great cause. The students did a really good job working in the kitchen and front of house and I’d like to say thank you to them for doing this for those who need it most.”
