Cycle lane planned for Ashton-under-Lyne

A pop-up cycle lane in Ashton-under-Lyne has been proposed.

The decision is part of a city-region agenda. Ashton-under-Lyne might also gain from the improvement of existing transport provision. Flyer printing can be used to communicate with the public, especially when significant changes are being introduced.

Greater Manchester’s cycling and walking commissioner is the Olympic champion Chris Boardman. Boardman told the Manchester Evening News:

“By giving more people the choice to walk or ride to shops and school for those shorter local journeys, we can change travel habits for good, improve our health, clean up the air and, ultimately, make us happier.”

Boardman is clear that long-term shifts in behaviour are needed. He suggested that encouragement is required to make it easier for people to make alterations in their lifestyles.

Elected Mayor Andy Burnham has said that new resources from the government shall facilitate the emergence of a walking and cycling region. He believes that Greater Manchester can limit pollution and make a recovery from the pandemic. He thinks that the evolution of an integrated system of transport is possible.

The hope is that Greater Manchester will benefit from the development of permanent walking and cycling routes. It has been revealed that over 50 miles of this type of infrastructure should be created by 2022.
