Ashton-under-Lyne to welcome flats

A block of flats is set to replace shops in central Ashton-under-Lyne.

An application from Yu Group means Old Street is going to see a transformation of old retail space into a three-storey apartment block. The vision, which has been approved by the planning committee of Tameside, should see 49 flats constructed. Printing services are useful in the property sector, especially when decisions are under discussion.

The plan the razing of several buildings in Old Street, which will enable the construction of the block of flats. The number of one-bedroom flats will be 41, and there will be two flats with two bedrooms. Six studio-style flats are going to complete the mix.

An agent for Yu Group, Sam Thistlethwaite, said:

“The proposals will have a positive impact on the town centre compared to the existing buildings and we believe this is a step forward. The applicant is keen to invest in Ashton town centre.”

There will be space for 13 cars, but the accommodation may be best suited to cyclists, with 66 provided for bicycles.

David Thompson, a planning officer, has underlined that the development will be on brownfield land. Thompson stated that there is insufficient housing in the area at present, and pointed out that residents of the apartment block would be able to access the city centre of Manchester by bus, train and tram.
