Tale of Roald Dahl scheduled for Altrincham
'Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical' is due to receive a series of performances in Altrincham at the end of October and the beginning of November.
It's the story of Willy Wonka, who holds a competition to open the doors of his secretive chocolate factory to a select few children. Charlie Bucket is a boy with an imagination who dreams of obtaining a golden ticket in order to tour the site, and indeed is astonished when this occurs.
His fellow winners of the contest include Veruca Salt, Mike Teavee, Violet Beauregard and Augustus Gloop, all unaware of what is about to happen. They learn important life lessons from Mr. Wonka, leaving as changed people. It is a fantasy world filled with innovation, sweets and Oompa-Loompas.
This production is a stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's book, with an innovative score by ''Hairspray' songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. It also incorporates songs such as 'I've Got a Golden Ticket', 'Candy Man', and 'The Oompa Loompa Song' from the 1971 movie.
