The new revamp of Altrincham’s Market, a regenerative project that began in April, has recently been completed. Conlon Construction was in charge of the £525,000 transformation, turning the historic site into a location for food stalls, performance artists, and artisans.
The project saw Market House and the adjacent market hall converted into a modern, mixed-use market, as well as a venue for other functions. Market House is a Grade II-listed building, dating back to the 19th Century, and so it was due for an update including better electrics, lighting, plumbing, and other public facilities.
Despite the upgrade, the traditional architecture of the building has been respected. The environment surrounding the building dates back even further to 1290, and this was also considered during the regeneration project.
According to BDaily.co.uk, the scheme was designed to combine the conservation of heritage with contemporary features and a compliance with modern day safety regulations within the building, including disabled access.
The chairman of Conlon Construction, Michael Conlon, explained that the new transformed market will ultimately “safeguard a piece of Altrincham’s history”, as well as making the site the heart of the town and, in turn, bringing more visitors.
