Parking spaces secured by volunteer group

A volunteer organisation that helps people get to a hospital in Altrincham has succeeded in claiming spaces in the car park close by.

Drivers for the Voluntary Transport Group (VTG), which assists those suffering from problems with sight and mobility, will be able to use the Total Fitness car park – rather than having to park somewhere further away from the new £17 million hospital found in the market town.

The underground parking facility is run by Derwent Estates and the organiser of VTG, Kaye Gardner, thanked them before pointing out that it will resolve the issue that has faced drivers for the group since the opening of the new hospital in April.

It took the place of the Victorian-era hospital that was located in Market Street and which had been the main hospital in Altrincham for nearly 150 years.

Speaking to a reporter from Messenger, she stated that this had meant the group losing the use of the Greenwood Street parking area, before adding:

“Drivers have found parking very difficult at the new hospital. There is sometimes room to drop off the patient near where the ambulances park, but many patients need to be escorted and helped into the hospital."

Local volunteer organisations like VTG – which helps over 300 people and has 45 driving for it – can use poster printing in Altrincham to advertise the services they offer to people in the area.
