The colourful project, which will be a combination of paint and the lids from plastic containers, is being supervised by the founder of Our Altrincham, Sarah Walmsley.
Once it has been completed, the mural will measure 2.4 metres by 3.6 metres and will showcase a design by Hobbycraft, tailored to the Birds, Bees and Butterflies theme of Altrincham in Bloom.
McHale and Co Solicitors is sponsoring the mural, while further support was provided by The Window Company – which helped get the boards required to the location in the centre of town.
Now, it is down to the children, with Sarah encouraging them to come to the room in small groups and add the hundreds of multi-coloured lids, which have been collected at Art with a Heart, Tesco, Hobbycraft and The Hub during the past few weeks.
Speaking to Messenger Newspapers, Sarah commented:
“It will brighten up the area and carries an important environmental message, encouraging passers-by to stop and think about what they’re throwing away, and consider whether it can be reused, recycled or upcycled.”
