Kids reading campaign gets local author backing

A campaign to get more children reading and writing has received support from a local author, who only started writing professionally herself for

a bet.

The Get Altrincham Reading campaign was launched last month, with banner and poster printing urging local children to write their own story based on what they love about living in Alty.

It is an idea that has been backed by Becky Donovan, who finally saw her own writing published after friends bet her £100, and sees reading and writing as an important part of growing up.

Since seeing her Hatty the Giraffe book in Print, 26-year-old Becky has gone on to have another four of her titles published. The young writer sees the campaign as a great way to get more children interested in Books, saying:

“I’m delighted to give my full backing to the campaign because I think it is so important to get children interested in reading and Books as early as possible.”

Becky went on to say that having somebody else enjoy what you have written is an incredible feeling.

Young authors taking part in the competition are asked to start their stories with the sentence 'I like Altrincham because...' and have until 9th May to get their finished pieces in.

All stories will be displayed at Altrincham Retail Park, with shoppers able to vote for their favourite. The winner will receive Books for their school.
