The metal printing plates that were used to create the first book written by Beatles star John Lennon are due to be auctioned off this May. John Lennon’s first book, entitled In His Own Write, was printed in its entirety using these plates to mark the words and pictures into the pages of his book. The plates are sure to be of interest to Beatles fans, and of even more interest to Beatles fans that have an affinity with Print or printing services.
Altrincham, based just to the East of Stockport where the auction is set to take place, is home to printing companies and Print enthusiasts who are sure to take an interest in the auction of this slice of printing history. However, as these items are so unusual, the auction house is expectant for bidders to travel or bid from much further afield, with significant international interest being generated.
The person who will be letting the hammer fall for the highest bidder is Kathleen Fairweather. She spoke about the auction, saying:
“We have done research and we have not found anything like this to come up for sale before. We have not come across any printing plates. I think particularly because of the tragic nature of John Lennon's death at such an early age and his talent, there seems to be a huge interest in his work.”
The auction will be held on 19th May at Omega Auctions in Stockport, Cheshire.
