The contract for the construction of South Trafford Health and Wellbeing Centre in Altrincham has been given to Bowmer and Kirkland.
This building company was selected by the developer behind the project, Citybranch, and will be built on the site where Altrincham General Hospital used to be. Citybranch saw its Plans win the approval of Trafford Council last year, ensuring the project would be able to go ahead. The centre is set to be 88,000 sq. ft., with the Victorian era façade of the old Altrincham General Hospital to be retained.
Funding for centre is coming from Canada Life, through a forward financing deal worth £35 million and it will be occupied by NHS Property Services, which has been given a lease that runs for 30 years. When this comes to an end, the terms of the lease will provide the NHS with the option of purchasing the freehold.
Alongside several GP practices, this new health centre will feature a café and a pharmacy, a wellbeing and health care co-ordination facility and a brand new Trafford Council library. The architect designing the centre is AFL and it is expected to be finished by the spring of 2018.
