What's Happening in Altrincham, England…

Early March start for Altrincham Word Fest

The poetry open mic night scheduled for Altrincham’s Word Fest in May 2019 is kicking off early with an extra event taking place this month.

The evening event will be held at Coco’s Lounge on Stamford New Road. As in 2018, the night will be hosted by the Rochdale based poet, Seamus ‘Shay’ Kelly.

The Altrincham Word Fest was introduced in 2018 by two local residents. Anne Earley, an experienced events manager and Yoko Isami a printmaker combined skills to create the popular two-week writing festival in Altrincham.

Along with poetry nights, a multitude of workshops from script writing and self-publishing to blogging and flash-fiction are held around town. Multiple location events can use flyer printing to keep the public informed on where everything is taking place.

As well as the open mic section, the March event will present the works of local poet Martin Zarrop. A retired University lecturer, Zarrop depicts himself as a:

“Mathematician who wanted certainty but found life more interesting and fulfilling by not getting it.”

He is the published author of two pamphlets of poetry and a collection entitled ‘Moving Pictures’. Originally an open mic entrant in 2018, the festival organisers were so impressed they invited Martin to feature this year.

This first open-mic night of Altrincham Word Fest will take place on March 6 between 7pm and 9pm.
