Choir in Altrincham scoops up top festival award

A choir from Altrincham has hit a high note by taking the first prize at a prestigious choral event held recently in Wales.

The Di Voci women’s choir won a major award in the North Wales Choral Festival, which took place at the Venue Cymru arena in Llandudno.

Di Voci consists of 35 women and is headed by Lorraine Brown, its musical director, who previously attended Trinity College of Music, where she studied singing.

Brown went on to gain experience performing solos in oratorios and operas as well as singing in choirs, and now teaches singing in the area.

She launched Di Voci in 2007 and winning the first prize within the Ladies Choir Category at the festival represents the group’s most impressive achievement yet. The judges at the event chose Di Voci based on the variety and interest they found in their performances and selection of material, and the choir will now follow it up with a programme of performances over Christmas.

It seems likely that they will use poster printing in Altrincham to make sure that promotional Posters for these performances include a mention of the award.

Di Voci will sing at the Light Up a Life service for St Anne’s Hospice, which is being held on 10th December at St. Peters, as well as a Christmas Concert in St. Georges Church in Altrincham, on 7th December.
