Burger face-off takes place in Altrincham

The new king of burgers has been crowned in Altrincham after a stand-off which saw involvement from some of the best eateries in the town.

The coveted award went to La Rioja restaurant, which entered with its Spanish-influenced chorizo burger. The owner, Barry Cooperman, was on hand at a ceremony at the weekend to collect the prize.

When restaurants like La Rioja win a competition like this, they often choose to reprint their Menus to include details of their new title. Print companies in Altrincham are known to work with a range of eateries and bars to produce Menus each year using professional full colour printing.

The Our Altrincham group arranged the burger-off, which was judged by a panel of locals and was covered live via the social networking site Twitter. The competition was organised to showcase the wide range of quality food establishments in Altrincham and to encourage local people to eat out more to support these independent restaurants.

The winner of the competition was crowned as part of a ceremony at Altrincham Town Hall, where runners up also received prizes and recognition for their dedication to the quest for a perfect burger. One of the runners up was House Restaurant and Bar, which was awarded with titles in the meaty and vegetarian categories.

The winning chorizo dish is now being served at La Rioja, much to the delight of the region's burger aficionados, and bookings for tables can be made by contacting the restaurant directly.
